Hugo Explores
Hugo Explores
HOW TO PLAY
Guide Hugo to the door. Above Hugo's head are two arrows. The larger arrow indicates the direction Hugo will move next, while the smaller arrow indicates the direction Hugo will move after that. Left uninhibited, Hugo would walk in a circle, meaning he will always follow the pattern: DOWN, RIGHT, UP, LEFT. Use the arrows keys and space bar to fire blocks into the room to black potential paths that Hugo might take. Create a clear path for Hugo to exit!
WEEK 12 PROMPT:
FOCUS: Design interesting levels while finding a strong aesthetic
Hugo Explores is about Hugo, a really egregious explorer. He loves meeting the unknown, but he's bad at it. Left uninhibited, Hugo would wander around in circles... literally. Players must hurl blocks and guide Hugo to the exit of each level. This week, I had so much fun working on this prototype. Recalling the old DOS games from the 80's that I used to play, a majority of them were puzzle games, which is what I have created here. Using pixel graphics, the CGA color palette, sliiiightly sticky controls with minimal interpolation, and boops and beeps, I think I've achieved the prompt set before me.
CONTROLS
WASD / Arrow Keys | Move blocks vertically or horizontally |
Space | Hurl a block in a given direction |
R | Restart the level |
M | Mute sound effects |
< and > | Lower and raise volume |
